Try finding another one. Originally delivered in the Netherlands, showing just 164,179 kilometres, finished in Brooklands Green, and completed exactly as it should be with a matching green hood. This is one of those cars that immediately tells the right story.
Supplied new on 3 June 1997 by an official Dutch Jaguar dealer, and ever since maintained exclusively by specialists and authorised dealers. The importance of that cannot be overstated. Jaguars and Daimlers from the 1990s have now firmly entered classic territory, and that changes everything. Finding a truly good example today requires patience, knowledge, and above all, a critical eye. Beneath an impressive appearance there can easily be rust, neglect, or overdue maintenance hiding in the background. A clean, honest car has become the exception rather than the rule.
We know this XK well. Over four years ago it came to us in part exchange on a beautiful Aston Martin DB7. It did not stay long. The car quickly found new enthusiasts, a friendly couple who went on to enjoy the XK for several years exactly as it was intended to be enjoyed. Contact remained, and that is how the XK8 has now found its way back to us once again.
The care from the previous owners is visible everywhere you look. No strange damage, no corrosion issues, no signs of postponed maintenance. In February 2021 the car even received a full Dinitrol treatment to preserve the already excellent condition of the body. The work was documented in detail, with around one hundred photographs supplied with the car on CD. Invoices have been kept, the service book is present, and the history forms a reassuringly complete file.
After taking the car back in, the most satisfying part of the process began. Not repairing, but perfecting. Preparing the XK once again to the standard we want it to meet before it goes to its next owner. The result is a long list of work, only finished once every known point had been addressed.
The timing chain assembly was completely renewed, naturally combined with a full service. The radio and heater control unit were repaired. The three interior window pillars were retrimmed. The original wooden gear knob was restored. Even the non-original XKR grille, often fitted to these cars over the years, was removed and replaced with the correct factory grille.
Both the interior and exterior have been fully cleaned and detailed. Even the wood veneer has been carefully polished. A classic in this condition deserves that level of attention, and the true enthusiast will recognise it immediately.
Step inside and you are greeted by what must be one of the finest dashboards of the 1990s. The interior is finished in Cream leather, beautifully preserved, with generous use of burr walnut throughout. The gear knob, the steering wheel, the dashboard panels, all exactly as they should be. The driver’s seat, the steering wheel… it feels as if time has stood still. It is immediately clear that this is a car that has been properly cared for.
Naturally, the XK has also been thoroughly inspected underneath, on the lift. Exactly as you would expect after the story above, everything looks remarkably clean. In fact, the body and chassis are exceptionally solid, the rear subframe sits perfectly in position, and both engine and gearbox are dry underneath. Details like these make the difference, and finding them like this has become rare.
You notice it the moment you drive the car. This Jaguar feels tight, precise, and well-sorted. The steering is sharp, without any play in the suspension components. The gearbox shifts smoothly and almost imperceptibly, and the engine runs exactly as it should, quiet and refined. It is the sum of many small details that makes this XK feel the way a good one should.
Even the original hood cover is still present, naturally finished in Cream to match the interior. A wind deflector is included with the car as well, although it is not visible in the photographs.
Are there no imperfections at all? Very few. There is a tiny pinhole in the hood lining, something that has been there for years and has not changed. The car currently sits on a neat set of winter tyres, which is not an issue, but worth mentioning nonetheless. Of course you will find a little paint imperfection on some points. And that is really all there is to note. Compare that to the average XK on the market and the difference becomes obvious.
The key set is complete, consisting of two original black remote keys, one of which is fully functional.
There is much more that could be said about this Jaguar, but the real impression only comes once you see and drive the car yourself. You are most welcome to visit us in Uden. The coffee will be ready.
