Jaguar, long wheelbase and captain’s chairs in the highly desirable X358 trim — it really doesn’t get any better than this.

Just how special is this Jaguar from the X358 series, the very last of its kind? Only a few thousand were built worldwide. This particular example is fitted with the exceptionally potent 4.2 V8. A proven and reliable powerplant, delivering just shy of 300 horsepower to the rear wheels.

And what makes a Jaguar X358 so special? With a new price of around €140,000, expectations were rightly high. Ventilated seats. Heated front seats and rear seats. Adaptive cruise control. Two individual rear seats where you would normally find a bench, naturally electrically adjustable. Multimedia screens in the headrests. Even the sound system can be controlled from the rear.

It sits on an original set of 19-inch Jaguar Polaris alloy wheels, factory-correct for this model, fitted with four recent Michelin tyres.

This Jaguar Sovereign, finished in the beautiful Pearl Grey, simply has it. An interior and exterior in outstanding condition, a chassis in top form — everything about this car breathes quality. No stone chips, no parking dents, and apart from the odd minor scratch, no damage to speak of. That tells you something about how this Jaguar has been driven over the years: cherished is the right word. Its condition remains genuinely remarkable.

The previous owner was a true enthusiast, and it was from him that I acquired this beautiful Jaguar. Everything about the car reflects that passion.

The Sovereign is finished in a rarely seen colour: Pearl Grey, formerly known as Gunmetal Grey. The interior is trimmed in beautiful Barley leather, partially perforated, and of course complemented by an abundance of burr walnut. The woodwork presents superbly and remains in very good condition.

Power comes from the reliable 4,196 cc V8, an engine known for covering high mileages without issue. This version of the Jaguar AJV8 is fitted as standard with the upgraded timing chain tensioners and guides, meaning no further modification is required.

The automatic gearbox shifts smoothly, while the suspension feels solid and well composed. The factory air suspension ensures that the Jaguar feels stable yet supremely comfortable at all times.

This Jaguar has spent most of its life stored indoors, and it shows. Aluminium corrosion on the doors, rear quarters or wings? None at all. Faded, blue-tinged door trims? No; a deep, original black. It is abundantly clear that the condition of this X358 is exceptionally good.

The X358 is a particularly interesting XJ. Its aluminium monocoque body results in a low kerb weight, even lower than that of its predecessor. Combined with more modern technology, it makes for an ideal long-distance touring car. The engine itself is the further developed version of the already proven AJV8.

Immediately upon arrival, this Jaguar was comprehensively prepared for its next enthusiast owner. A major service was carried out, with total costs exceeding €3,000. This is the only way we believe a classic should be delivered: fully sorted and ready for many carefree miles.

Originally, this Jaguar was delivered new in Italy. In 2015, an enthusiast brought the X358 to the Netherlands, where it has since been carefully maintained. The service history is well documented, with service records, numerous invoices and MOT reports all present. The key set is complete.

Are there any drawbacks, you might ask? I have found very few. The headlining was refurbished in the past and remains in relatively good condition. There are a few minor marks, but they are barely noticeable; after all, the Jaguar has been polished twice and finished with a protective coating.

There is much more to say about this Jaguar X358, but as ever, the best impression comes from seeing and driving the car yourself. You are most welcome in Uden, the coffee is ready.
