What a fine display of class and quality this XJ8 is. Just study the photographs for a moment: the beautiful interior, yes, but above all the remarkable condition in which the car presents itself. The all-aluminium body remains in very good order, while the original 19-inch Jaguar wheels are fitted with a neat set of four Vredestein tyres.
Look after your car properly, and it will look after you in return. That is exactly what this XJ conveys. A pleasure to admire, and an even greater pleasure to drive, this is an XJ8 with rich experience and the right sort of care behind it.
Originally delivered in Austria, this XJ comes with a particularly attractive specification. Cars supplied new in Austria and Germany were often configured with a little more flair, and that is certainly the case here. It is fitted with the wonderfully supportive XJR sports seats, which, together with the 19-inch Jaguar Custom wheels, give this XJ8 V8 a subtly more sporting character.
Its service book and a substantial file of accompanying documentation are present. The car has been in the Netherlands since 2015, and especially from the more recent Dutch years, the maintenance history is extensively documented through invoices and stamps in the service book, largely from recognised specialists. A known car, and that always adds confidence.
Power comes from the dependable 4.2-litre V8, which once again proves just how effortlessly these engines can cover significant mileage when properly maintained. In this version, the Jaguar AJV8 is already fitted as standard with the improved timing chain tensioners and guides, meaning no modification is required. Upon arrival, we carried out a service and the car has also been supplied with a fresh MOT.
The automatic gearbox shifts smoothly, the suspension feels solid and well sorted, and the standard air suspension gives the XJ that characteristic balance of stability and comfort.
Electrically adjustable front seats are fitted, with memory function for the driver, and even the steering wheel is electrically adjustable. The beautiful, soft leather in Cream completes the interior and gives the cabin exactly the refined atmosphere one hopes to find in a proper XJ.
The X350 is a particularly interesting generation of the XJ. Its self-supporting aluminium body construction keeps the weight remarkably low, even lower than that of its predecessor, while the more modern engineering makes it an excellent long-distance car. Under the bonnet sits the further developed version of the already proven AJV8, known for its durability when properly maintained. For business use, the X350 is often especially attractive, as in many cases it qualifies for the Youngtimer scheme, resulting in favourable taxation for the entrepreneur.
This XJ8 will be delivered with a fresh MOT. The service book is present, together with documentation, and the car comes with one original folding key.
Naturally, no car of this age and price range is entirely without remarks. Around the car there are some minor imperfections, despite the very presentable appearance in the photographs. The sunroof is closed but currently inoperative, the headlining is sagging, and here and there the honest signs of use that belong to this particular XJ can be seen. Nothing excessive, but worth mentioning. What remains is an appealing XJ that deserves to end up with an enthusiast. The combination of price, character, and overall condition makes it an attractive car, whether as a business Youngtimer or as an accessible entry into Jaguar ownership. Running costs remain relatively modest thanks to the low weight and corresponding road tax, and any improvements can be carried out gradually, at your own pace.
After covering quite a number of test miles ourselves, it is my sincere expectation that this XJ still has a long and enjoyable future ahead of it. On the road, nothing suggests the mileage it has covered. It would be wonderful to see the next owner add another 100,000 kilometres, and perhaps bring the car back to us again one day.
