The Fiat Cinquecento – or simply the Fiat 500 – captures the imagination like few cars can, and it never ceases to charm.
Slide open the fabric sunroof, feel the gentle thrum of the two-cylinder engine behind you, and you’ll quickly realise: driving a Fiat 500 is pure joy. Not just for you, but for everyone who catches a glimpse of this eye-catching little car as it cruises by.
Enjoyment, however, depends on drivability – even with a classic. That’s why you shouldn’t just buy any old 500. Choose a reliable example. A classic may shine easily, but what you’re looking for is a 500 with mechanicals that are every bit as sound as its paintwork. Preferably one fitted with the slightly more powerful 652cc engine – ideal for keeping up with modern traffic. An updated ignition, a crisp carburettor, and a gearbox that shifts smoothly – ideally a fully synchronized one. This particular Fiat checks all the boxes. What we call a true “start-and-go” car.
And it’s no surprise: this 500 underwent a professional restoration in its past. You can see it in every detail – the front panel aligns perfectly with the fenders, the engine lid sits straight, the window frames are smooth and free of flaws. The sills are solid, and the floorpans and footwells look practically new. Even the original upholstery is in superb condition.
Of course, many detailed photos are available – just send me a quick message via WhatsApp and I’ll be happy to forward them, no strings attached.
It’s an absolute delight to behold – no doubt about it! A Cinquecento is arguably at its best in red – in this case, ‘Rosso Medio’. Naturally, no metallic paint here; after all, we’re talking 1969. The original headlamp units are still present, which is quite rare. The charming, original hubcaps are in place, and even the correct Italian tyres have been fitted – exactly as it should be!
As mentioned, this Fiat 500 was professionally restored some time ago. The previous owner and her partner commissioned the work in 2009, and enjoyed the car all the way up to 2025. So when they contacted me about parting with their beloved Fiat, I didn’t have to think twice – you simply don’t pass up a car like this. Right after picking it up, I took it out for a drive and snapped a few photos. And although it ran beautifully, I immediately booked it in with the specialist for a full service. After all, annual maintenance is the best way to keep a classic like this in top shape. The specialist, by the way, was just as impressed as I was – he instantly noticed all the highlights: the more powerful engine, the smooth-shifting gearbox, and the overall excellent condition.
So, the 500 will be delivered freshly serviced and fully prepared for a new owner – someone who will very likely enjoy it every bit as much as its previous caretakers did.
I could go on for hours, but it’s far better if you come see – and drive – it for yourself. You’re warmly welcome by appointment in Uden. The coffee’s ready!
