It was already six years ago that Marcel, together with his two sons, bought this lovely X308 from me. The years passed until Marcel called to say they had decided it was time for the Jaguar to find a new enthusiast. And so this Racing Green XJ returned to our stock.
This XJ was used exclusively during the summer months, and it shows. No visible rust on the wheel arch edges, the sills remain in good condition, and both lower corners beneath the rear screen are free from rust. The paintwork is fresh, the underside clean and well kept. Maintenance has never been neglected over the years. You can hear it, see it and feel it in everything the car does. Drive it over a poor road surface and the Jaguar still feels solid and composed, which is certainly not something that can be said of the average example on offer today. Unstable road manners, a worn steering wheel, sagging headlining, tired dampers and springs… this XJ is altogether different. The headlining, for instance, is not sagging at all, but remains in top condition. The seats present very well. Naturally, the mileage history is perfectly documented. What more could one ask for?
The interior is finished in Cashmere leather with a contrasting piping. Naturally, there is an abundance of burr walnut throughout. The air conditioning blows cold exactly as it should, always a welcome detail.
For its time, the Jaguar offers a remarkable level of luxury. This example is fitted with features such as an automatic headlamp sensor, electrically height-adjustable seats, climate control, a radio with CD changer, and steering wheel controls for both the audio system and cruise control.
Looking under the bonnet, the first thing that stands out is how exceptionally tidy everything appears. More importantly, the full timing chain tensioner update has been carried out, meaning both the upper and lower tensioners and guides have been replaced. At the time, our trusted technical specialist also performed a major service. It did not stop there, as the entire cooling system was addressed as well. All hoses were renewed, and the thermostat housing was replaced with the improved aluminium version. Was this strictly necessary? That depends on one’s priorities. When it comes to maintenance, I prefer to err on the side of caution. The majority of the technical work carried out on our behalf is preventative, and that is exactly the case here.
Also now in 2026, the car has received extensive maintenance together with a number of preventative measures, ensuring that this X308 is once again fully prepared for its next enthusiast. No expense has been spared to bring this Youngtimer to the condition in which we like to present our cars.
There are no unusual damages to be found on the XJ. The careful way in which it has been used is evident throughout. Combined with the beautiful, classic colour combination, this makes the car exactly what a proper XJ should be.
Are there any drawbacks? Naturally, every classic has its points of attention. In this case they remain limited. There is a small rust bubble on the right rear side between the sill and the rear wing, the interior mirror has slightly deteriorated, and the tyres are somewhat older, although the tread itself is still good. Of course we have pictures of the mentioned points available, feel free to ask.
The Jaguar will be supplied with a fresh MOT inspection. The key set is complete, consisting of two black remote keys. The documentation folder is present with the car. This Jaguar was first delivered on 11 April 1998.
