Daimler. Double Six. Series 3. Savoy Grey paint, Savile Grey leather; a great combination!

A nice Series 3 Jaguar, let alone a Daimler, is hard to find these days. I was surprised when the current owner drove by with the Double Six, because the good condition is immediately noticeable, you can see that at a glance. Not strange, if you hear the story. This Daimler has been in the family for more than 30 years, since 1992. 1992 was the year that father bought the Daimler as the first owner. Special!

You can tell by everything that the Double Six has been handled well and with care. No missing details, no noticeable flaws. Everything just as it should be. The Savile Gray leather upholstery in neat condition. A working sunroof, a nice running 5.3 V12. A working air conditioner and heater. Even two lambswool mats are still there! That’s how we like to see it.

Perhaps even more important is the condition of the Series 3 when looking at rust. The family made the right choice to have the Daimler fitted with a Dinitrol treatment early on; this protects hollow spaces and sensitive sheet metal against moisture and thus against rust. The results are impressive! No rust visible on fenders, sills or on the underside. The sheet metal under the rear window is also free of rust. Only some bubbles are visible on the sheet metal of the sliding roof, fortunately easy to deal with.

Make no mistake; these days we are talking about real classics, oldtimers. An automobile of 30 years old in this condition is not obvious. While perhaps any Series 3 XJ can look good in the photo, the differences are huge. These differences are made by the driver and his choice of garage. A specialist knows the weaknesses of the classic and responds perfectly to this. Also when it comes to this Daimler; renowned specialist Jagpoint in De Bilt NL has looked after the Daimler. Take a look at the engine compartment and you will immediately see this specialty. The new air conditioning pump immediately catches the eye, suitable for today’s modern gas. No strange oil leaks, no leaky gaskets and no inferior repairs to note, exactly how it should be!

Additionally, major maintenance was carried out last month; 12 new spark plugs, new filters and fluids. Even the fuel lines on top of the block have been preventively replaced, as they became porous given their age. Windshield rubbers have been replaced due to minimal leakage in the old rubber.

Well, there must be something to note, you say? Of course there are some minor things to mention. There is a small rust bubble visible on the sunroof and currently the cruise control is not working. This, together with some minor signs of wear after 30 years, are the lesser points of this Double Six, what remains is pure enjoyment!

There is still a lot to say about this Daimler, but of course you only get a good picture when you look at the car and drive it. you are very welcome in Oirschot, the coffee is ready.
